Primeval lizards in Gettorf
Today a couple of Tegus has arrived at Gettorf coming from the zoo Munich. The large lizards, originally coming from South America, look a bit like monitor lizards at first sight, but are relatives of the much smaller lizard family. The large male has already reached a size of about one meter and may still grow to an overall length of about 1.50 m. The female is still much more delicate.
Now we hope that the two newcomers settle in well with us and will quickly become trusting. Especially the keepers are very excited about their new fosterlings, because Tegus are considered very intelligent and docile and can become very tame with appropriate treatment.
